Chicago Fireplace, Inc. has been in business for 40 years employing certified installers and technicians with a history in all phases of the niche market we serve. We have an impressive background of construction in new and restoration projects. Our company offers service, design and we install Traditional Fireplaces, Contemporary Fireplaces and Linear Fireplaces throughout Chicagoland. Our Chicago service area includes Hyde Park, Beverly, Western Suburbs, and the North Shore. We are also skilled in working with interior and exterior design professionals, builders and homeowners.

We employ our own installation and service teams, instead of subcontractors. Our sales and review team are also installers, so you meet the people you will be working with during the job review. There is no set pricing because every job is unique. We assist in design so the focus is not just a fireplace, but a focal point. We restore old fireplaces, specialize in installation of European antique mantels in wood or marble, and can change an entire wall within days whether it is cabinetry or stone. Fireplaces are not our only specialty; we also service outdoor fireplaces, gas grills, and fire pits. Need a new look? We can install custom limestone to fit your needs.

We are the Original Chicago Fireplace Inc

It started with my partnership with a company out of Lisle called Chicago Furnace. They were a huge family owned HVAC distributor. They were the biggest Majestic Fireplace Distributor in Chicago area. The Pre Fabricated Fireplace Market. Mostly catered to builders. I was a customer there since I was 16. True! So in 1996 they asked me to come in and build a showroom. Asked me to be a partner. I built the showroom for free in trade for all the installation business. People started calling us Chicago Fireplace. The name was never registered by anyone so I registered and incorporated the name. If you go on the SOS website you will see I own Chicago Fireplace Incorporated. We then started selling Stone, Mantels, etc.. It was a great thing. Started working with homeowners, interior designers. That is where the concept for Chicago Fireplace INC was created and we have never looked back. We are PROUD to say that we are the original Chicago Fireplace. We are PROUD to keep providing great services to our customers from day 1 until today. You know what they say, OFTEN IMITATED NEVER DUPLICATED!

Chimney & Fireplace FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Choosing the right fireplace starts with what you want most—ambiance, real heat, convenience, or a mix of all three. Each style fits differently based on your space, lifestyle, and installation options.

Wood-burning fireplaces and wood stoves deliver classic crackle and strong warmth, but they require a chimney, regular cleaning, and wood storage. Gas fireplaces offer instant flame and steady heat with minimal maintenance, with direct-vent and ventless models differing in venting needs and local code considerations. Electric fireplaces are the easiest to install—no venting, no mess—making them ideal for remodels and smaller spaces. Pellet stoves provide efficient, consistent heat and longer burn times, but require electricity, routine cleaning, and pellet storage.

Comparing venting requirements, upkeep, and desired heating output helps you choose a fireplace that matches your home’s design and the way you live.

Deciding between a gas or electric fireplace comes down to the mix of heat performance, upfront investment, and day-to-day simplicity you want. Gas fireplaces generally produce more usable heat and can cost less to run over time, which makes them a strong choice for larger rooms or frequent use. Electric fireplaces are typically more affordable to install, require little to no maintenance, and can be placed almost anywhere—ideal for apartments, remodels, or adding supplemental warmth. The right pick depends on your space, local energy rates, and how often you plan to use it throughout the year.

Fireplace and stove maintenance depends on the fuel type and how often you use it, but routine service is key for safe, efficient performance. Wood-burning fireplaces and stoves should be inspected and professionally cleaned each year to remove creosote and prevent chimney hazards. Pellet units usually need more frequent cleanouts during the heating season because ash builds up faster. Gas fireplaces typically benefit from an annual inspection to verify the burners, venting, and connections are working properly. Staying on schedule protects your investment, improves efficiency, and helps ensure reliable, long-term operation.

Heat output varies widely by fireplace style. Traditional wood-burning fireplaces are best for ambiance and light-to-moderate warmth, while modern wood stoves produce much stronger, more efficient heat that can comfortably warm a room—or even larger areas of the home. Gas fireplaces deliver steady, adjustable heat with high efficiency and low upkeep, making them a reliable option for supplemental comfort. Pellet stoves provide consistent, high-output heat using compressed fuel, often comparable to wood stoves but with easier day-to-day operation. Electric fireplaces lean more toward visual impact and zone heating, offering gentle warmth that’s ideal for smaller spaces.

Installation time depends on the fireplace or stove type and how involved the setup is. Gas fireplaces and inserts are often the fastest, and many can be installed in a day. Wood-burning fireplaces or stoves usually take longer because they may require chimney or venting work, safety clearances, and possible structural changes. Pellet stoves typically land in the middle, with timing influenced by venting requirements and electrical access. Existing infrastructure, permits, and any custom finishing work can also extend the overall schedule.

Yes—sometimes—but it depends on your TV manufacturer’s heat and installation limits and your fireplace’s heat output above the opening. Before mounting, confirm both manufacturers’ guidelines, verify required clearances, and consider heat management (a proper mantel/heat deflector or a higher mount) to reduce rising heat. Even when allowed, ongoing heat can shorten a TV’s lifespan. We follow the TV manufacturer’s recommendations, and we assume no responsibility for damage caused by fireplace heat.

Yes, we service wood-burning fireplaces. Our wood fireplace service typically includes a safety-focused inspection and a thorough evaluation of key components like the firebox, damper, smoke chamber, and chimney/venting to help ensure everything is operating properly. Regular maintenance helps reduce creosote buildup, improves draft and performance, and supports safe, efficient use throughout the heating season.

Yes, in many cases a wood stove can be converted to gas, but it depends on the stove model, venting setup, and local code requirements. Some units are compatible with a manufacturer-approved gas conversion kit, while others need to be replaced with a purpose-built gas stove or gas insert that fits your space and chimney system. A proper conversion also requires the right venting, a safe gas line connection, and professional installation to ensure reliable performance and safe operation.

A vent-free fireplace (also called a ventless fireplace) is a gas fireplace designed to operate without a chimney or exterior vent. It uses a high-efficiency burner system that produces minimal exhaust, with the heat and combustion byproducts released into the room instead of being vented outside. Because of that, vent-free units can be easier to install and provide strong supplemental heat, but they must be used according to manufacturer guidelines and local codes, and they’re not allowed in every area. Proper room sizing, ventilation considerations, and built-in safety features like oxygen depletion sensors are key parts of safe vent-free operation.

The cost to install a fireplace and a chimney varies widely based on the fireplace type, whether you’re using an existing chimney, and how much construction is required. If you already have a chimney, installing a gas or wood insert is often the most cost-effective route and commonly falls in the low-to-mid thousands once venting/liner work and labor are included. If you need a new venting system (or a relined chimney), costs increase. Building a brand-new chimney—especially masonry—can add several thousand dollars on its own due to materials, height, roofline access, and structural requirements. As a broad ballpark, many complete “fireplace + chimney” projects land around $5,000 to $15,000+, with custom builds and significant structural or finish work pushing higher.
